Lesley welcomes higher education scholar
November 3, 2009
Dr. Derek Bok, author, attorney and former president of Harvard University, will discuss higher education at Lesley University’s Marran Theater at 47 Oxford Street at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10.

The lecture is free and open to the public, and a reception and book signing will follow in Marran Gallery.
Bok’s latest book, Our Underachieving Colleges: A Candid Look at How Much Students Learn and Why They Should Be Learning More, is a critique of higher education, including a discussion of skills he believes students should work at during their undergraduate years.
Our Underachieving Colleges also discuss pedagogy and how, through incentives, college faculty and administrators can be motivated to focus more on undergraduate teaching and outcomes for students.
Bok served as president of Harvard University from 1971-1991 and again as interim president from 2006-2007. He has also served as dean of Harvard Law School. His other books on higher education are Beyond the Ivory Tower, Higher Learning, Universities and the Future of America, The Shape of the River and Universities in the Marketplace.
