Shows, talks, film highlight The Art Institute of Boston fall season

Posted September 9, 2010

Work from illustrator Sue Coe’sThe Tragedy of War” cycle, more than 40 posters protesting the 2009 Iran elections, and a rare viewing of original prints by late Cambridge resident Maud Morgan highlight The Art Institute of Boston’s fall season.

The school will also present lectures by longtime Magnum photographer Bruce Davidson on the occasion of his new three-volume career retrospective and MacArthur-award winning sculptor and installation artist Ann Hamilton.

And on Nov. 9, Don Hahn, producer of “The Lion King” and the Oscar-nominated “The Little Matchgirl,” will screen his new film “Hand Held,” about the children’s AIDS crisis in Romania.

“The Art Institute of Boston has long supported art that demands attention and spurs action,” said AIB Dean Stan Trecker. “From Sue Coe’s challenging ‘The Tragedies of War’ to the anti-Orwellian spirit of ‘Where Is My Vote?’ to the moving portrait of children’s suffering that is ‘Hand Held,’ we are presenting work that calls for change. Together with shows and lectures from other celebrated artists, we have a strong, comprehensive season.”
